1 Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
What sweet words just to think that God cares for us. It’s not just that He knows us, for He knows everything about us, even those things we would rather He not know, and yet even then He cares for us. It’s not just that He loves us, for His love is that deep, wide sea we often fall into, almost an incomprehensible love, and what a great thought it is that He loves us so. But often we are caught in our own smallness, our own insignificance, our own burdens, struggles, and failures. And then He comes along and says He cares for us. So what matters to us matters to Him. What bothers us matters to Him. What ails us matters to Him. Because these are often the cares that we carry with us every day.
God cares about us, and He cares for us, for He is the great caretaker. And can we not submit ourselves into His gracious hands, submit our cares to the one who can deal with them in the proper way? One who cares so much would never hold back anything. Not only does He always give to us just exactly what we need when we hardly even know we needed it, but His hands are ever open to receive any care we would wish to cast upon Him, ask His help with, beg to be freed from.
Let’s allow the reality that God cares for us to sink into the deepest place in our hearts and settle and take strong root. And let’s allow that reality to give us strength when we feel so very alone, when we feel most helpless and cast off. Let’s allow that reality to carry us through the biggest and smallest trials we face. The God of all creation, the Maker of all things, Almighty God Himself cares for us. So it matters very little what we are, because all that He is cares for us. And He is mighty. He is powerful. He is wise. He is in control. He is working. He is near.
And then will not those high thoughts of our God then cause us to humble ourselves? How can we see His great love and care, His power and glory, His righteousness and holiness, His majesty on high and not simply bow to Him with humble adoration? It is because we are so small that He can carry us. And He can handle all that seems so big to us. So let’s allow the knowledge that He cares for us to enable us to cast everything into His capable hands.
