Don’t Be Deceived

Matthew 24:24
For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.

People throw facts out all the time with no proof or verification that shows they are true.  So-called experts give an opinion, and then that is passed off as truth and spreads until one person’s opinion becomes everyone’s fact.  People in positions of authority make a statement that is accepted as fact simply because of their title.  When people don’t think for themselves, they are easily deceived.  When things aren’t questioned, they slowly become ingrained into society until lies becomes truths and truths become lies.

It’s easy to see how false prophets can arise.  And their deception will be very convincing if it could even fool true believers.  That’s why it’s so important to know the truth and to recognize when truth is being distorted.  We don’t necessarily need to know what every false preacher is saying as long as we know for sure what the Word of God says and use that as the basis of what we believe is truth.  If we don’t know for ourselves, we are more easily led astray by things that sound godly or look godly or seem godly when they are the works of the devil.

Have we studied the Word of God enough to know what it says, to know what the truth is, and to know what we believe about it?  Could we recognize a false teaching that came along under the guise of truth because we could tell it didn’t match up with what the Bible says?  If what God says is important to us, we’ll learn it.  And if it’s really important to us, we’ll build our lives around it and not compromise.  We’ll refuse to forsake what God says for what man says even if it looks good or sounds good.  We’ll spend the time that it takes to be good students of His Word.

Let us not be deceived or discouraged by the rise of lies and untruths that spread across our world.  The Bible warns us that these kinds of things will happen.  We are simply to remain faithful to the truth of God and the task of sharing that truth with as many people as possible.  As the dark shadow of falsehood is cast over the Earth, let us be the shining lights we are called to be that can show people the way to the one true God.
