John 1:14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
Our society today is one of choices. There are always multiple options for whatever we are seeking. If we want food, there are endless restaurant choices, grocery stores and other food outlets. If we want clothes, there is an abundance of clothing stores for all shapes, sizes and styles. Today we have an online marketplace where goods of all kinds can be bought and sold with the push of a button. We want options; we want choices; we want multiple sources for anything we desire, and we want it all in abundance.
In this kind of environment, it’s hard for things to be special or unique. There is almost no such thing nowadays as “one of a kind” in our mass-produced world. Knock-offs and imitations of all kinds abound. But truthfully, blessedly, there is no imitation and there is no substitute for the person of Jesus Christ. He was special. He was unique. He was one of a kind. He is truly God’s only begotten Son. He is the Lamb of God. He is the Messiah. He is our Savior.
Jesus lived a short life on Earth. He completed His work. He fulfilled all the promises of Scripture. And now we can claim Him as our own. In our world, there are many sources of disappointment, many sources of death and destruction, many sources of unhappiness and discontentment. We can find misery and despair anywhere. Emptiness and brokenness abound. But Jesus is full of grace and truth. What valuable resources those are, and He offers them to us freely. We need only come to Him to be completely satisfied.
Jesus is the only source we need. He is full of an abundance of grace. He offers us every good thing we could ever want—love, forgiveness, hope, mercy, truth, life, light. What a blessing, what a joy to find all we could ever need in Him. And the supply is constant and overflowing. He will never hold back in giving of Himself to us. Let’s not let ourselves be distracted by a world full of counterfeit options, but instead seek ever more of our precious Savior. His glory will overshadow our lives. His grace will sustain us and uplift us. His truth will guide us and never lead us astray. Once we find Jesus for ourselves, there is no need to search for something else.
