Jesus Revealed

Luke 2:12
And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.

There were probably other babies in other inns.  There may have even been other babies born that same night.  But Jesus was lying in a manger outside the inn, and so there would be no mistake about which baby the shepherds were to seek.  Our Savior is known by His distinctiveness, and everything ever said about Him came to pass.  There is no one else like Him anywhere.  He is the one and only.  And He fits into everything Scripture ever said He would be.  There is no way to mistake someone else for Jesus.  He is that special baby born in those unique circumstances who accomplished God’s unique plan for Him in order to give us salvation.

And we can know Jesus and know Him as our Savior because God makes Him known to us.  He can be found if we seek Him because God shows us the way to Him.  His Spirit speaks to our heart.  He engineers the circumstances of our lives that will lead us to saving faith in Him.  He brings the right people along or the right Bible verse or the experience that opens our hearts to Him in the first place.  He paves a path, He opens doors, and He invites us to know Jesus for ourselves.

But more than just where Jesus is, God reveals to us who Jesus is.  He is the only begotten Son.  He is holy and just and true.  He is the Lamb slain for us.  He is the King of kings and Lord of lords.  He is the Savior of mankind, the Redeemer of souls, the giver of life.  And He becomes our Great Shepherd, our close friend and companion, and the Bridegroom of His church.  And we can have a relationship with Him.  We can experience Him, just as the shepherds did, up close and personal.

God’s desire is always to lead people to Jesus.  He didn’t hide Him away in a cave, but told people where He would be.  He didn’t keep His birth and life a secret, but He revealed Him to the world.  He proclaims Him down through the ages and seeks to lead each of us on that same journey to find Him for ourselves.  So, have we come to know Jesus, and then have we continued to get to know Him?  Do we recognize Him because He is so distinct, so special, unlike anyone else we could ever seek to follow?  Jesus is truly unmistakable, so let’s not miss the chance to know Him for ourselves.
