Esther 4:14
For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, then shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father’s house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?
Esther and Mordecai could have never imagined on that day they decided to respond to the king’s request at the palace that their people would one day soon be in so much danger. When Esther became queen, she had no idea that she would have an opportunity to use her position to intervene on their behalf. Mordecai couldn’t have known when he sent Esther to the palace that she would be able to make such a difference for the Jews, that she would have an opportunity to find favor with the king and play such a vital role in their deliverance.
So often things happen in our lives that we could have never foreseen, and we have opportunities to be used in ways we could have never imagined. But God is always working and engineering our circumstances. Nothing that happens is an accident. Nothing is chance or luck. God brings us to a certain place at a certain time for a certain reason. And we should take advantage of those opportunities to be used by Him, because if He’s brought us somewhere for a purpose, we can be sure He is with us in it.
We don’t always know where the decisions we make might take us. But sometimes they lead us to some critical moment. And if we step back and look at the big picture, we might just see God’s hand in it all along. So we can be brave like Esther. We can go out and do the right thing, even though it’s the hard thing, because we can trust God to work through us. We can have courage, because we’re not going alone. We can trust that God’s will and His purposes will come to pass with or without us, but what a blessing it is to be an instrument in His hand and have a chance to bring glory to Him.
Sometimes God chooses us for things we never intended to be involved in. Sometimes what He has planned for us is totally unexpected. And sometimes we are uniquely positioned or suited for some specific thing He wants to accomplish. Let us simply be willing to be used. Let us be willing to say yes to those opportunities that come our way. We just might discover a hidden purpose God had been preparing us for all along.
