A Journey Through Psalm 119: Wisdom

Psalm 119:97-104
MEM.
97 O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
98 Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.
99 I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.
100 I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.
101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.
102 I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.
103 How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104 Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

The psalmist has been a faithful student, and the benefits of that are realized.  A love for God’s Word has grown through the time that was spent, and learning what it says and what it means and how to apply it just produces a greater thirst and desire for it.  It has become a constant part of his life, and he is seeing fruit from that.  It means so much that he can’t keep his mind off of it.  And the result of that is that he grows in that most important area of wisdom.

God’s wisdom trumps man’s wisdom every time.  With His wisdom filling our lives, we can overcome whoever and whatever may come against us.  We will be prepared for different situations that may arise and will be ready to handle them in a godly way.  We’ll get to a place where we don’t just know what we are supposed to do, but we will actually be living that out in the world.  That wisdom acts as our guardrail to keep us from falling off the edge and prevent us from going the wrong way into something we’ll regret.

The psalmist has reached the place where the Word has been sealed upon his heart.  He has known this truth to be of God and has been a willing and diligent student of his Lord.  It is not just something he thinks about to marvel over, but it compels him to obedience.  There is nothing more important and nothing he would rather have, so the Word is sweet, the time is sweet, the fellowship is sweet, the blessings are sweet, and the lessons are sweet.  The benefits of getting to this place in our walk with God are many.  And we can get there when we don’t allow anything but the pure and holy truth of God’s Word to influence us as we continue following that path to wisdom.
