49 Remember the word unto thy servant, upon which thou hast caused me to hope.
50 This is my comfort in my affliction: for thy word hath quickened me.
51 The proud have had me greatly in derision: yet have I not declined from thy law.
52 I remembered thy judgments of old, O LORD; and have comforted myself.
53 Horror hath taken hold upon me because of the wicked that forsake thy law.
54 Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.
55 I have remembered thy name, O LORD, in the night, and have kept thy law.
56 This I had, because I kept thy precepts.
We learn through experience that we can trust in God’s promises always. We can ask for God to follow through on them because we are depending on them. And then we can trust God to come through as He says He will. Having God’s Word—having learned it and taken it to heart and made it a part of our lives—is a source of hope and comfort in the difficulties and struggles we will face in life. It is a constant resource for us no matter what we are dealing with. It gives life and revival to the soul and encouragement to the heart. So even in trials, we can be faithful to God’s Word.
Knowing what God has done before can help us now. Knowing those things that God has done in the past can show us what He can do today and in the future. Understanding who God is and how He is able helps us to deal with challenges we face. So we can have faith through all of those kinds of experiences because it is built not on what we’ve done, but what God has done. We can hold on to God’s truth when nothing else makes sense.
So may God’s Word become the song of our lives. In good times and bad, we can hold fast to what God says. He gives us joy on our journey and is the source of all of our rejoicing. His Word is full of reminders of all the resources He offers to us. He gives us peace. He gives us direction. He gives us hope because nothing is impossible for God. He gives us comfort because He is always with us. He gives us truth that we can depend on as we rehearse it in our minds and come to know it better and better.
