A Journey Through Psalm 119: Trust

Psalm 119:73-80
JOD.
73 Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.
74 They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word.
75 I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.
76 Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.
77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.
78 Let the proud be ashamed; for they dealt perversely with me without a cause: but I will meditate in thy precepts.
79 Let those that fear thee turn unto me, and those that have known thy testimonies.
80 Let my heart be sound in thy statutes; that I be not ashamed.

God is truly the author of our lives.  He is our creator.  He made everything.  And He made us to know Him.  We can know Him through His Word, and we can know His Word because He gives us understanding of it.  He teaches us like a patient Father until we grasp one thing and can move on to the next.  If we’re going to truly have wisdom, then it must come from God, the very source of all wisdom and understanding.

As we gain this understanding, it helps us to trust God more.  We can understand that the promises God gives to us are sure and that everything He says is true.  And then we can ask Him to do what His Word says.  We can ask for His kindness to bring us comfort, like He says He will.  We can ask for His mercy to give us a little reviving and new life, because He says that He will.  We can let go of worries about those who harm us unjustly and let God take care of those kinds of things.  We can ask Him to draw us together with those who also love His Word so we can have that sweet fellowship together.

We can ask for His help to obey and not go astray when we desire so much to please Him.  We can ask God to help us to be solid and grounded in His truth so that we follow it instead of a different path.  We can expect God to act according to the aspects of His character that are revealed distinctly in Scripture.  So let’s allow these things into our lives.  Let’s trust God to keep His Word.  May our hope and comfort come from knowing we can fully trust God and all that He has revealed to us.
