Psalm 62:7-8
In God is my salvation and my glory: the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God. Trust in him at all times; ye people, pour out your heart before him: God is a refuge for us. Selah.
How foolish we are when we fail to trust in God. He has made Himself our refuge. He wants to help us. He will give us His strength. And we must trust Him at all times, because He can be trusted. David knew that. He had experienced that, and so he lived that out in his life. He went to God time and time again in every trial that he faced. He consulted his Lord before he ever took a step. He communed with God often and knew Him well and His Word well. And as a result, he had a very alive faith that honestly depended only on God in every circumstance.
We can have that same kind of faith, but we must cultivate the same kind of relationship with God. And when it is hard to trust, especially then, we must trust Him all the more. We don’t need to hesitate to share everything with Him, to entrust every struggle, trial, worry or doubt into His capable and able hands. He knows best what to do with those things that confound us. He is so much more than we could ever want Him to be. And He wants to be there for us, and He wants us to simply trust Him.
God is always our safe place to go. When we needed freedom from sin, He gave us Jesus. When we needed love, He poured His own into us. When we needed strength, He gave us His. When we needed help, He gave us His Word. When we needed comfort, He gave us His Spirit. When we needed mercy, He didn’t hold back. So can’t we see that no matter what happens, He will be there for us? Can’t we see that we can always rely on Him because of how faithful we’ve already known Him to be? All we have to do is pour our hearts out to Him, and He will pour out His heart to us. And as we stand there before Him with our cupped hands, He will give to us exactly what we need.
Let us trust God and learn to trust Him more so that we really are trusting in Him at all times—good times, bad times, scary times, blessed times, hard times, easy times. He really is the only one we truly can trust at all times. If we’re honest, we’ll never find a time in our lives where He’s failed us. So let us go to Him anytime for any reason. Let us spend much time with Him, because that is how trust is built. And let us know Him better so our faith can grow.
