Matthew 7:13-14
Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

Jesus doesn’t tell us these things to limit us, but because He loves us and wants us to have something so much better than we could ever find on that wide path to destruction.  He’d rather we go down His narrow path and find life.  It may seem at first so constricting, but the longer we walk that path, we’ll find that instead of being restricted, we are free.  We’ll find that walking with Him is so much sweeter than walking with the world and that the narrowness of that path compels us to walk very near to Him.

Sticking close to Jesus is the best way to go through life.  And if we look over and see so many following that wide way, surely we won’t regret our choice when we find peace and rest and joy instead of the turmoil and chaos that follows down that other way.  There are many paths that lead to death but only one true way to life, and following Jesus is the only way to get there.  So with our eyes upon Him and our hearts toward Him, let’s keep on going down that path.

It can be difficult for us sometimes to think far enough ahead and understand the future consequences of the choices we make today.  And if we’re at that proverbial fork in the road pondering which path to take, we can’t make a hasty decision only based on what we can see from here.  We can’t listen too much to what the world would tell us to do or the lies that Satan is screaming at us to entice us down his path.  And just because many would choose that wrong path, let us not be afraid to go against the crowd and enter that special path that Jesus prepared, because it leads us all the way to heaven.

There are many ways to destroy our lives or end up destroyed.  There are many ways we can go that would ultimately leave us very empty.  It is easy to find that path, and it is a common one that people take.  But let’s be a little more discerning.  Let’s consider what awaits us at the end and seek out more purposefully that better way to go.  Because though there are many ways to separate ourselves from God and many paths that only lead us farther from Him, there is a way, through Jesus Christ, to get as close as we want to be to the heart of God Himself.
