Isaiah 6:8
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.

Isaiah, freshly purged of his sin, is eager to go, eager to be used, eager to serve the Lord who he had seen high and lifted up and full of glory and holiness.  His attitude is of wanting to do something for God.  He wants the privilege and the opportunity to serve the Lord.  His decision, then, is to answer the call.  He responds to God in a positive way.  He undertakes to go forth into all the God would require of Him.  He’s making the commitment to be part of the team, so to speak, and follow where God would lead.

But what about us?  We’ve tasted and seen that the Lord is good.  We have experienced His merciful forgiveness and cleansing from our sin.  So His voice is calling out with a request to us, but have we heard it?  Have we eagerly responded to it?  Do we have a willingness in our hearts to be used by God, to serve the Lord, to go out into whatever He would ask us to do?

Sometimes it seems like we can approach the requests God makes of us, and even His commands, with a begrudging attitude.  We’ll go if we have to.  We’ll do something if we have to.  But there’s no joy in approaching it that way.  Can’t we, invigorated by the new life He implants in us, obey eagerly and with passion and energy?  Can’t we get excited about the chance to do something for our great God who has done so much for us, a God worthy of our complete dedication?

Isaiah wanted to be the first in line, even if he was the only one in line.  He didn’t want to miss out.  As a result of his willingness to be used, we have a book in our Bibles that paints a glorious picture of who our God is, that magnifies His greatness, that reveals His Son who would die for us.  He is a God worth serving.  But what is our attitude toward those opportunities we have?  Are we eager to go and eager to serve?  Are we humbled and grateful that we have the privilege to be sent by God into the great purpose He has prepared for us?
