1 Corinthians 2:4-5
And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man’s wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power: That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.

Nothing about God can make sense to our limited human minds.  Those parts of us so used to beginnings and endings cannot fathom a limitless God.  Mankind, in his experience of weakness and lack and fragility, cannot understand completely the overwhelming power of God.  We who are so used to failure and disappointment can hardly grasp God’s ability to do impossible things.  We are just too limited.  Every part of us is limited.  But no part of God is.

So when we try to reason things out from our perspective and what we can know and what we can discover, nothing about God makes sense.  Jesus Christ and Him crucified seems impossible and improbable.  Eternal life and salvation gained on our behalf from Jesus’ work of dying and rising seems too good to be true.  But we have to set our own reasoning aside and just trust God.  The power of God is more than we can imagine and beyond our comprehension.  The ability of God is more than we can know.  But it is so real.

Paul was a smart guy.  He had had a good education.  He was raised a Pharisee and knew the Word of God well.  But when he gives forth the Gospel, it’s not the same as trying to win some intellectual argument.  It’s not a demonstration of his own knowledge.  It is the Spirit of God who brings forth the Word of God and works in the hearts of men.  It is not anything that Paul would say, but it is what God says.  It is His Word and His Spirit at work to convince and to persuade people of the truth, to accept Christ, to believe Him.

Our faith can be sure because it rests on the power of God.  We don’t believe in Jesus because of what men have said about Him, but what His Spirit has revealed to us.  Our trust is not in human wisdom and understanding, but God’s plain truth that He wants us to know and believe.  Nothing that anyone says can save another person’s soul, but like Paul, we can proclaim the Word of God and trust His Spirit to be at work.  We can let Him reveal Himself to people’s hearts and lead them to that saving knowledge of Christ and continual growth of their faith in Him.
