Repost: Valued

Luke 12:6-7
Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?  But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Sometimes it seems we are so consumed with our own unworthiness that we don’t realize how valuable we are to God.  Sometimes it seems that we focus too much on what others have that we don’t or what others are that we aren’t instead of finding who God made us to be.  Sometimes we look around at the big world with all its big problems and we see people with their serious struggles and maybe we feel kind of like we don’t really matter.  Sometimes our own smallness is magnified by the vastness of everything else that’s happening, and we might start to wonder if God even notices us at all.  Sometimes our struggles and our hurts and our lacks overwhelm us to the point where we may even doubt God’s love for us.

Our value comes from what God thinks of us, and He adores us with a powerful, soul-penetrating love.  We matter to Him so greatly.  Our lives matter to Him.  Our struggles matter to Him.  Our joys matter to Him.  And we are His sweetest treasure.  He is intimately involved in each of our lives, and how can we ever doubt the love of a God who has taken inventory of every part of us?  We don’t invest ourselves very much in things that we don’t care about, and God is the same way.  He built a world for us.  He gave His Son for us.  He supplies our every need.  And He even stoops low to fellowship with us.

This sin-filled world ruled by Satan will try to convince us that we aren’t worth anything, but we must refuse to believe those lies, because we are worth everything to God.  This world will try to convince us that life isn’t precious, that it is even disposable, but every life matters to our heavenly Father.  Our own sin and guilt will try to convince us that we are unworthy, but our souls are precious to our Savior, and He gave His life for us.

It can be easy to feel forgotten or worthless, but God’s watchful eye is always upon us.  So no matter how others feel about us or how we feel about ourselves, let’s find our value in God’s love for us.  Let’s adopt His perspective and learn how He sees us.  Let’s open up our hearts to Him and allow ourselves to experience the healing power of His love.  May we truly understand what we mean to God and who we are in Him once we become His children and find our full worth in Him alone.
