1 Peter 2:23-24
Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not; but committed himself to him that judgeth righteously: Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

If Christ bore our sins and our sorrows, then He is intimately acquainted with the details of all of them, and He understands our brokenness in a way only someone else broken could understand.  As He hung on that cross with our sins hung on Him, He experienced the weight of our heavy burden and felt for Himself everything that will ever weigh us down.  But after He felt the agony and the misery of sin and what it does to us, after He was punished for every wrong thing we will ever do, He conquered those things.  He overcame them.  He triumphed over everything.

And though we can never be unbroken, we can be made new.  We can never undo those things we regret the most, but we can be free from them.  We may have to live with some things, but they don’t have to be gaping holes in our lives.  The wounds aren’t left open to cause us pain forever, but they are healed by the blood of Christ.  The memories of our past mistakes may not fade, but our guilt does and our condemnation.  Our scars may remain, but Jesus kept His, too, reminders not of suffering, but of complete victory.

We weren’t redeemed and restored and remade in order to live defeated by our past sins, but to live unto righteousness.  We weren’t forgiven and set free to go on still under the weight of those burdens.  We were given new life through our Lord Jesus to live new lives, to be different people, to do different things, always depending on Him who did so much for us already.  We were given a great gift at great cost that should be valued and treasured.  And may the reminder of all that Christ endured for us cause us to endure much for His sake.

It is true that Jesus understands every struggle we deal with.  He knows all about the hardest things we face that seem so impossible to overcome.  He felt the pain of them, but then He left them behind, and through Him, we can do the same.  Jesus gave His life willingly.  He endured all that suffering for us because He loves us so much, and He doesn’t want us to continue in sin and being broken and full of sorrow.  He wants so much more for us than that.  He wants us to pursue a life of righteousness, experiencing the freedom He’s given to us.
