There are few days that bring about more anticipation than Christmas morning. Especially as a kid, we can hardly wait for that day to see what kind of presents might be waiting for us under the tree. It’s an almost overwhelming excitement. And there are so many different traditions and special moments that go along with that day that we look forward to each year. But we don’t have to lose that childlike excitement. There is a day to come that we can look forward to with that same kind of anticipation.
Jesus came to Earth, lived, and then died and rose again. But that wasn’t the end of the story. He’s coming back. And because He came that first time, we look forward to the day He comes to take us home. We understand that there is something so amazing beyond our wildest imagination still to come. There is a place prepared for us. There is the eternal presence of our Lord. There is the hope of heaven.
John 14:2-3
In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.
What an amazing promise that is. What a day to look forward to. And it could come at any moment. So let’s live each day like it really might be today. Let’s listen for the trumpet. And in the meantime, let’s live with an excitement for serving the Lord and living for Him until He calls us home. There is a tremendous power contained within hope. And the hope that comes from knowing Jesus came that first time gives us great hope that He will come again. So let’s allow the hope of what is to come help us to live for Jesus right now.
