Trusting in God

Psalm 31:14
But I trusted in thee, O LORD: I said, Thou art my God.

The heart of David is evident in Scripture.  His life wasn’t easy.  He faced many challenges and hardships, but he brought everything before the Lord.  He poured out not only his sorrows and anguish, but abundant praise to his God.  He brought his hard questions and heartaches and confusion and laid them down at his Lord’s feet.  He brought joy and rejoicing and new songs as offerings to his Savior.  He wrestled with his sin and the consequences of it and found forgiveness for it.  He sought protection and help and wisdom in every trial and battle.  Truly his heart was fixed.  Surely his dedication was shown.  He knew his God and knew Him well and so trusted Him much and found everything he needed in Him.

David could trust God so much because he knew his life was in God’s hands.  He knew his God to be faithful and honorable and trustworthy, and he took hold on that in such a strong way that he let himself fall often into God’s waiting hands.  He leaned upon Him in those weak moments, craved for His mercy in his failures, rejoiced in Him always, and recognized Him as his authority and lived his life accordingly.  And we can do the same in our lives.  All we have to do is make that commitment to Him, trust Him fully, and surrender all.

So, is God who we are trusting in?  Have we gotten to a place like David where we will trust Him no matter what?  Do we share everything with Him, good and bad, and accept His will for our lives no matter what it may entail?  Do we turn to Him and rely on Him for every need we have?  Have we taken steps of faith that prove His faithfulness?  And have we experienced His love and mercy in such a way that there is no denying that God is truly all He said He was?

May it be so that we truly trust God in our lives and with our lives.  May we depend on Him with our whole hearts the way He always intended us to.  May we continually live with that God-ward focus that places Him in that place of preeminence.  And may we cultivate the kind of relationship with our God that enables us to trust Him more and more.
