12 Little Gifts of Christmas: A Little Song

One special part of the Christmas season is all the songs we only sing this time of year, those familiar carols that stir our hearts into worshiping Jesus.  We gather around and sing with family.  We sing at church.  And sometimes we even go door to door to our neighbors and friends and do a little caroling, spreading good cheer to all who may listen.

And isn’t that kind of what the angels did?  This most spectacular event had occurred where Jesus the Savior was born, and they couldn’t keep that good news to themselves.  An angel visited some shepherds, and then the heavenly host couldn’t hold back their praise as they proclaim glory to God.  The Bible is full of the songs of saints and angels alike, giving glory to God, praising Him and singing with joy and awe and love to Him.

Psalm 95:1
O come, let us sing unto the LORD: let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.

When Jesus comes into our hearts, He gives us a song to sing that is uniquely ours.  Those songs give praise and honor to God, but then they are also testimonies for the hearers of the greatness of God and what He has done.  When we sing to the Lord and for Him and about Him, we encourage others to know God like we do.  We share the gift we’ve been given, even if we can’t hold a tune.  It’s a joyful noise that originates from a heart of love to honor God that He accepts with delight.  So as we sing Christmas carols this year, let’s consider adding in our own song and telling others what Jesus has done for us.
