One of the best parts of the Christmas season is all the lights everywhere.  They’re strung on trees and houses and all kinds of places we don’t normally find lights.  Some are golden, and some are colorful, but they are all beautiful, and they add a happy glow to our neighborhoods.  And these colorful bulbs are unique from most other lights because they are on a string, all connected, joined together.  And usually when one burns out, so do all the rest.

Jesus is the light of the world.  He came to shine His glorious light into our dark and sinful world.  Jesus came to illuminate the truth.  He came to give us a glimpse of the true glory of God.  He came to give us a taste of what life without darkness can be.  And He shines so much brighter than any light that man can manufacture.  In fact, He even shines brighter than the sun.

John 8:12
Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Jesus is the Light, but then He also says that we, His followers, are the light of the world.  We join together as His church, connected to one other like that string of lights that wraps around the world so the glory of Christ can continue to shine forth in the midst of the darkness.  We continue to illuminate the truth.  We continue to magnify His name.  We proclaim Him by reflecting that light for all to see, because it really is all about Jesus.  So may our lights shine bright this Christmas.
