Matthew 21:15-16
And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased, And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

The Pharisees’ view of Jesus was of a man who was taking more glory than He was due, someone opposing God by likening Himself to God, taking a higher position than He was worthy of.  They were displeased by this display of praise by some joyful children and probably wanted Jesus to put a stop to it.  But Jesus truly was the Son of David, the one they had been waiting for, and He truly is worthy of all praise—so much more than we can give Him.  And so we have to see Him with that childlike faith, not the jaded view of the Pharisees.

And when we do see Him that way—the glorious King of Israel, the Son of God, the promised Messiah, our Savior—nothing will be able to hold back our praise.  So let us lift our voices, unrestrained by pride or self or anything else, and praise the Lord as He is worthy to be praised.  Can’t we praise Him with the same unbridled joy these children had after knowing Him as our own personal Savior and Lord?  After knowing Him as our redeemer and our deliverer, can’t we glorify Him with all we have within us?  Will we sing to Him and not hold back simply because we’ve experienced His great love for ourselves?

And if we ever find ourselves scoffing as others praise God with their whole heart, perhaps we need to examine our own hearts and find out what bitterness is keeping us from joining in that chorus of Hosanna to the King, what pride or lack of belief or lack of faith is holding us back from glorifying our God.  Many of the Pharisees never did get to a place where they understood who Jesus really was, but may we surrender to the Lord and seek to overcome whatever it is that is keeping us from glorifying Him with all of our hearts.

Let’s push all of our inhibitions aside and proclaim Jesus as Lord of our lives.  He has done such wonderful things for us.  He has been so gracious and kind.  He’s blessed us generously and come so close.  He is everything He said He was, so let us recognize Him as such and give Him all that He is worthy of from our grateful hearts.  Let’s not keep silent and allow the rocks to proclaim His greatness, but may it be our voices that make our King known among the people.
