Psalm 77:10-12
And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High. I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.
What is our infirmity, and what has caused us to doubt? What has brought us to a place where we aren’t quite sure of God’s mercy or His presence, His faithfulness or His goodness? Whatever it is, the cure for doubt is remembering, which will lead us back to faith. But we must choose to remember, and we must choose to meditate. We must look back purposely and consciously. So let us stop examining so closely our own infirmities and focus instead upon our Savior and Lord, and we will see that He has been so faithful, so good, so strong, so gracious.
We may not have been witnesses to them personally, but the Bible is full of accounts of the wonders of God, and these things can encourage us now. So let us dig deep into the Scriptures and find out all the wonders of God from the beginning of His creation. Let us study hard the lives revealed in God’s Word and find help and answers for our own lives. We can draw on these examples to learn and grow in our own walk with the Lord. So let us remember faithful Abraham and doubting Thomas and how God stepped into each of their lives. Let’s remember Moses and his struggles and triumphs and how God worked wonders through him. Let’s remember Joseph and Noah, David, Elijah, Jonah, Peter, and all the rest. But let’s not look at them as mere stories, but experience them as the actual events that they were.
Most of all, let us remember our Lord Jesus Christ and the wonders that He did. Let us meditate most on the great works of the Son of God, the wonder of the sinless Lamb going to that cross to die for our sins, and then we will doubt His love no more. Let us meditate upon those sweet moments we’ve experienced so personally with our Lord. Let’s remember His deliverance of our souls from hell upon our salvation. Let’s remember where we were when His grace reached down and pulled us out of the darkness. Let us remember who we once were and who we were becoming and that it was He who made us new and whole and different.
May our minds, souls, hearts, and lives be consumed by God. May our thoughts always be upon Him, our hearts open to Him, and our lips praising Him. And may our lives be filled with His Word, because the more of it we have in our hearts, the easier it will be to remember. Let us remember Jesus’ death and His sacrifice and remember it often and let those thoughts pull us up out of our own self-pity and onto serving Him. We can’t keep turning inward to look upon our infirmity, because we will never rise unless it is by the mighty right hand of the Most High. So let us keep looking to Him, and then let us tell everyone that Jesus Christ made the difference in our lives.
