John 1:10-11
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.  He came unto his own, and his own received him not.

Jesus came to Earth and revealed God’s heart toward man, and that revealed man’s heart toward God.  The same ones who built Him a temple to be near Him would hammer nails into His hands and feet and gleefully watch Him die an ignoble death on a cross.  The ones who claimed to be the keepers of His law would break it.  The ones who pursued a unique understanding of God were the ones who refused to see Him in their midst.  And a nation who would testify of their desire for God would turn their backs upon Him.

Jesus entered His creation in the ultimate act of humility.  Here was God descending to Earth, deity among mortals, infinite among finite, holy among sinful.  Here was love personified walking among hateful men, a God of truth and purity amidst the lies and defilement of man.  Here was light entering the darkness.  Here was goodness invading evil.  Jesus, the Prince of Peace, entered our world of chaos.  The King of kings walked among us as a servant.  The creator of all things introduced Himself to His creation and was soundly rejected.

But not everyone’s heart was cold toward Jesus Christ, our Savior.  Though Israel as a whole refused Him, many became devoted to Him.  Though some would have no part with Him, others gave up everything for Him.  Though many refused to believe, still many down through the ages would place their trust in Jesus Christ and receive that new life He came to give us all.  Though He faced the pain and humiliation of the cross, abandonment by His Father for that one dark moment, a whole host of saints and angels sing His praises.  His precious bride, the church, proclaims her love for her one and only.

The hearts of much of the world oppose the one true God.  Many who have heard the name of Jesus preached in truth have still chosen to reject Him.  Many who know about Him want nothing to do with Him and refuse a relationship with Him.  But that doesn’t change His heart of love.  It doesn’t diminish what He did in coming to Earth to die for the sins of the world and open the pathway to the eternal God.  So though many won’t receive Him, let us not give up on them, and let us not stop proclaiming Jesus Christ to the world around us, sharing what He did for us so that others may finally accept Him for who He is and know Him as their Savior.
