2 Samuel 15:25-26
And the king said unto Zadok, Carry back the ark of God into the city: if I shall find favour in the eyes of the LORD, he will bring me again, and shew me both it, and his habitation: But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good unto him.

David faced just as much turmoil after finally taking the throne as he did before.  He’d spent all those years fleeing from Saul, and now he must flee again as Absalom seeks to reign in his place.  His life was in danger before, and now it was again.  But through it all, his faith in his God remained intact.  He truly trusted God in every part of his life.  He knew that God was in charge, that He was leading and guiding and had a purpose for everything that David experienced.  He wasn’t worried about understanding all the whys or hows, but he simply surrendered to his Lord.

Are we willing to submit to God in this same way?  Can we have this kind of attitude that whatever the Lord wants is okay with us?  Or are we trying to fight against Him to make something happen or get our own way?  Have we truly surrendered all?  Can we walk away from something knowing God will bring us back if it is His will?

Sometimes surrender is scary.  We like to be in control.  We like to plan ahead and know what is going to happen and we try to be prepared for what’s coming next.  But sometimes we just have to be willing to let go of all of that.  Maybe we have to leave a place when it doesn’t make sense or we have to go somewhere when we don’t think there is anything there for us.  Maybe we have to stand still where we are even though we want to move on somewhere else.  Maybe we don’t see anything good that can happen in the circumstances we find ourselves in.

But faith in God erases all those doubts and questions.  When we trust Him, it doesn’t matter where we are, because He is with us.  It doesn’t matter what happens to us, because He is in control of those things.  It doesn’t matter if we understand what is happening, because He has a purpose that we can’t always see.  Let’s allow God to be in control.  That’s His position.  That’s His role in our lives.  And when we can live fully surrendered, we’ll find peace wherever we are.  We’ll find that God is enough when we’re outside of where we want to be.  We’ll be able, like David, to place everything in His capable hands.
