Acts 6:4-5
But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.  And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:

The Apostles had been given their place and their role by Jesus Himself, and that important work must be attended to.  They gave themselves fully to the work God had given them to do.  But there were also other people who had come to know the Lord, who had believed on Him and had been following Him, and they could fill in these other jobs and roles that needed to be filled.  There were other ways to serve and other people God had prepared for those services.  And when things are done in a God-honoring way and done in order, everyone can be pleased, and no one will be neglected.

That is the way the church is still supposed to work today.  We can all come alongside each other into our God-appointed role and serve the Lord and each other.  That’s what makes any group work, particularly the church, where there should be submission to the will of God.  And if we each do that, the whole body benefits.  If we each willingly take our place exactly where God will have us to be, everything really works out how it’s supposed to.

Let’s not ask others to step outside of their role in the church in order to do something they were not called to do.  And let us not force our way into some position that God has not ordained us for.  But let us seek God and trust His leading to guide us into what He wants us to do.  He has a plan prepared and our work mapped out for us.  He has made each one suited perfectly to each task so that the whole body operates in harmony.

Have we found our place of service?  Have we responded to the call God has given to us?  And are we obeying Him in it?  God looks upon our world with an unlimited perspective.  He sees a much bigger picture than we do.  So when He places each one of us where He would have us to be, we shouldn’t question Him or forsake our duty for something else.  He has us aligned just so to accomplish all of His purposes through us.  So let’s follow the Spirit’s leading and do what He has called us to do.
