A God Who Hears

Psalm 77:1-2
I cried unto God with my voice, even unto God with my voice; and he gave ear unto me.  In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted.

What a precious truth to our hearts that God gives ear unto us.  So often we may feel ignored by those around us.  Too often we may feel alone or choose to isolate ourselves in the midst of our sorrows.  Maybe we hold everything inside when it seems like there is no one safe we can tell.  But we can cry out to our God and expect Him to hear us.  We can know that He is listening as we pour out our burdens.  We can know that He is aware of every cry from our heart.  He is an attentive listener and will give us all of His focus.

So let us bring our burdened hearts to Him.  We were not meant to bear everything alone.  God loves us and cares about us and what we are going through because He wants us to thrive for Him and glorify Him with our lives.  So let us pour out our hearts before Him and tell Him of our sadness and our fears, our weaknesses and worries.  Let us tell Him how we feel and why.  And then let us listen for an answer, heed His Spirit, recall His Word, study Scripture, pay attention, and focus outwardly on living for Him and loving others around us.  Let us use prayer as a time to get out of our own heads and into God’s heart and find our solace in our God who hears us.

No matter what is happening, we must keep seeking the Lord.  There is nowhere else we can ever turn in our day of trouble.  So in these difficult times, let’s keep our focus in the right place—upon our Lord and Savior.  There is not always immediate relief, but will that cause us to impatiently turn somewhere else?  May we always seek the Lord and keep seeking Him until the comfort does come, because it will never come from anywhere else.

The truth is that trouble does come into our lives.  Life is often painful.  But let’s not turn aside to other people or other things, but instead draw even closer to the Lord, especially in these times when we need Him most.  He is always there for us.  He will listen and He will help.  And we never have to face our heaviest burdens alone, but we can rely on the Almighty one to come alongside us.  So let’s not be silent when the ear of God Himself is open to us, waiting for us to cry out to Him.
