Genesis 40:14-15
But think on me when it shall be well with thee and shew kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:  For indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

It may be that we have done nothing that should cause us to be put in the dungeon, but that is where we find ourselves.  We may be begging for favor with Pharaoh only to be forgotten where we are.  Trials and difficulties often come into our lives through no fault of our own.  But we can’t give up.  We can’t lose heart.  It doesn’t mean that God has forsaken us or that He has forgotten us.  He knows exactly where we are and why and for how long we must continue in it, because these things are part of His plan for our lives.

So though it is not our fault, we must endure through it, stick close to God anyway, do right always, and continue serving.  Our reactions and responses to these kinds of trials is important.  Joseph kept a strong testimony.  Joseph found favor.  And eventually, Joseph was remembered and delivered, becoming himself the deliverer of a nation.  And if we can endure all the way through to the end of our trial with our testimony and our faith intact, we don’t know who we might be a blessing to simply because we endured faithfully.

Ultimately we must remember that God is in control of our circumstances.  He is never surprised by what is happening to us—rather, He is actively orchestrating every part of our lives.  He is working out His plans in and through us.  He is allowing us to experience hardships to grow us and teach us and build us up, strengthen our faith, and even so we can serve others in those situations.  God can and will use things for good that don’t seem very good while we’re going through them.

God has carefully plotted the course of our lives, and it may be that where we are at the moment isn’t somewhere we would choose to be.  But though everyone else may forget about us down here in our dungeon, we are not forgotten by God.  In His way and in His time, He will deliver us and raise us up again.  So may we endure with patience, trusting God always, and depending on Him no matter what difficulties come along.
