And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.
Once we know God, we are not to be conformed, but transformed. We don’t become more like the world and what we know around us, but we become something new entirely, something that only God can make us into when we’ve surrendered to Him and given up all right to ourselves.
This transformation comes through a renewed mind. It’s like a factory reset that rids us of the sinful and earthly mindsets that so permeate us and replaces those with a godly, Spirit-led, Scripture-led mindset that helps us see things as God sees them. It is, following that, a pursuit of holiness and righteousness that is willing to leave behind the ways we’ve always known for the ways of God.
When we are willing to give God all of us, He will take us as we are, but not to stay that way. Instead it is to become what He’s always wanted us to be. In Christ, there is real freedom from our sin, freedom from our past, freedom from the ways of this world and the ruler of it. The shape we take depends on what we allow to shape us.
