Psalm 77:10-1
And I said, This is my infirmity: but I will remember the years of the right hand of the most High. I will remember the works of the LORD: surely I will remember thy wonders of old. I will meditate also of all thy work, and talk of thy doings.

What is the key when we are struggling? When trouble comes and we are overwhelmed? According to this psalm, it is to focus on God instead of our problem and our weakness and our inability to solve whatever is ailing us. We are admonished to think on God, to remember what He has done in the past, how He has revealed Himself, what promises He has made. It will do us much good to remember those things, to think on those things in careful meditation, to talk about those things with others, and to make much of who God is and what He can do.

When we do that, we can’t help but see the greatness of God, His goodness, His power, His wisdom, His miracles, His deliverance, His help, His mercy. And we don’t just have our own lives to look back on, but we have so many powerful stories in Scripture that reveal our amazing God working in real people’s lives and situations similar to the ones we deal with.

What a help it is just to know it is this great God who is with us in the deep struggles of life, even when we feel like we have no faith. When we see no light at the end of the tunnel, when sorrow floods our souls, when we can’t see a way forward, God is there, and He is still the same God we have always known Him to be. Hardships have a way of clouding our vision and dimming our memory, but purposely refocusing on God in the midst of that can offer us a new perspective and outlook on it that will help us deal with it in a different way.
