The Beginning and the End

Revelation 1:8
I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty.

What a year it’s been, right? This time last year, we couldn’t have imagined all that would come from 2020. And now here we stand on the edge of another new year. Maybe we’re looking forward with hope that it has to be better than the last. Maybe we’re looking ahead with expectation, relief, or even a little bit of dread about what may come next. But perhaps one of the lessons that has come from this year is that we can adjust and adapt and learn and grow from the good, the bad, and the changes that take place.

But even as we reflect on where we’ve been and anticipate where we’re going, may we also remember the eternal and unchanging nature of our Lord. Jesus was and is and is to come. He existed before we did. He exists while we abide here on earth. And He exists in the future yet to come. He dwells there even now as the eternal God of all.

We go into an uncertain future, the dawn of something new. We turn a page with a story yet to be written. But we don’t have to face it with fear, because Jesus is already there. He goes before us and yet He walks beside us into whatever may come. We can go forward with hope and expectation knowing that the God who was with us yesterday and is with us today will be with us tomorrow. May we hold fast to the truths of our God, His goodness, His love, His wisdom, and His power, as we go forward into whatever the future may hold.
