Acts 9:17
And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

God had big plans for Paul.  He was a chosen vessel, a man who would be influential in spreading the Gospel and reaching people for Christ.  But in this moment, Paul needed someone to stand in faith, to be obedient to God and come alongside him.  In this moment, Paul was blind and needed to be led about by the hand.  In that state, he was kind of helpless, maybe frightened.  But God had given him a vision of a man named Ananias, who was willing to trust God enough to go help the notorious Saul of Tarsus, persecutor of Christians.

The truth is that most of us aren’t going to be like Paul.  We won’t have a far-reaching ministry or his sphere of influence.  We won’t stand up and preach to thousands, share Christ with kings, start churches, or write letters that end up as part of Scripture.  But we can be like Ananias.  We can be faithful to what God has called us to do.  We can come alongside and help someone else who will be the one going out to reach thousands for Christ.  It took great courage for Ananias to go help Saul.  He had to trust God more than he trusted his own assessment of the situation, but he was still willing to be obedient.

There is not one God-given task that is better or more important than another.  Each individual person contributes to the overall cause in the ways that God has for them.  Ananias could do things that Paul never could, and Paul had opportunities that went beyond what Ananias ever had, but God was at the center of all of it, directing and guiding according to His plans and purposes.  So may we be willing to step out in faith in response to whatever God has asked of us.  And may we do our part with faithfulness and humility as God’s overall purpose is accomplished.  If we’re willing to be used where we are and in the lives of those around us, much can be done to reach many for Christ.
