John 6:32-35
Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.  For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.  Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

It was a miracle the multitude got to partake of.  Maybe before, only those who were sick got to experience that personal touch from Jesus.  But they had all eaten the bread that had multiplied in Jesus’ hands.  They had felt the sensation of being full from the meal that Jesus had provided.  And they come seeking after Him.  But are they only looking for more of those temporary sensations?  Are they seeking the bread of the multiplied loaves, miracle food like the manna their ancestors ate in the wilderness?

The people wanted this bread.  They wanted this everlasting bread that would ever satisfy their hunger.  But it seems some only wanted it if it was like the bread they had in the wilderness, not if it was Jesus.  So often, we’ll ask for things from God.  We desire them so much.  We want to be filled and satisfied.  But then when Jesus says that it is He who satisfies, we push Him away.  We don’t want it to be Jesus.  We want something else, something we can grasp, something easy.  But it is truly only Jesus that we need.

The people came seeking the bread, but Jesus has something better to offer, something more fulfilling, something truly life-giving.  Jesus wants to satisfy the deepest hunger of our souls.  He wants us to understand that He is the spiritual meat given by God for us to feast upon and be fully satisfied.  He wants us to understand that the manna was just a picture of what was yet to be fulfilled in Him.  And He delights to meet our need if we would believe on Him.  Jesus came down from heaven, like that manna, to give eternal life to all who would partake of Him.

May our lives be about more than seeking our daily bread.  God has already promised to supply that.  May it be only Jesus that we seek.  May we feast on Him day by day in order to be fully satisfied.  He is what we need to make it from one day to the next.  He is what we need to live lives of abundance and satisfaction.  He is what we need to live eternally in the world to come.  He offers to us the bread of life freely.  All we have to do is receive it from His hands.
