Revelation 4:9-11
And when those beasts give glory and honour and thanks to him that sat on the throne, who liveth for ever and ever, The four and twenty elders fall down before him that sat on the throne, and worship him that liveth for ever and ever, and cast their crowns before the throne, saying, Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
There are many amazing things that John sees in his first glimpse of heaven. There is the throne and the one who sits upon it. And around the throne was a rainbow, the seats of the 24 elders, lightning and thunder, lamps of fire, a sea of glass, and the four beasts. But even with all of those amazing things to see, the focus of it all is the one on the throne, Jesus Christ the King of kings. He is the one they bow before in worship, the one at the center, the only one worthy.
The wonders of heaven are many, but the greatest of all will always be Jesus. There are many wonderful things He has created, but none of them compare to Him and His glory. So may we make Him the focus of our lives and the center of our worship and let everything else be on the periphery. May we exalt Him to that high place, cast our crowns before Him, and give Him all that He is due.
The purpose of everything is to please God. When He created the world and everything that exists, He looked upon it and deemed it good. It brought pleasure to Him. Sin entered in, but it pleased Him to bruise His Son for our sakes. And now our belief in Him pleases Him. Our obedience pleases Him. Our worship pleases Him. And when we fulfill what we were created for, that pleases Him, because it restores, piece by piece, His intentions for that original perfect world.
The culmination of our lives of faith is to be with Jesus where He is, to dwell in that perfect place in a perfect relationship with our God and Creator. And there we will spend an eternity doing those things that please Him. So even now, may we live with Jesus at the center of our lives, worshiping Him with pure hearts, serving Him, obeying Him, and seeking to please our Savior in all that we do.
