A Time and a Place

Acts 7:20-21
In which time Moses was born, and was exceeding fair, and nourished up in his father’s house three months: And when he was cast out, Pharaoh’s daughter took him up, and nourished him for her own son.  And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and in deeds.

God has perfect timing.  Things had started out pretty good for Israel in Egypt, but things had gotten worse.  Their circumstances changed.  They were being oppressed.  And just then Moses was born, and he had a very unique experience of being spared as a baby and raised in Pharaoh’s palace.  He would eventually be the deliverer, just not when he thought it was time.  He had to spend his forty years in a wilderness waiting on God’s perfect timing.

Not only are circumstances and events arranged by God, but people are prepared.  Moses would lead the people out of captivity.  He would do great signs.  He would receive the law.  He would be what the people needed to get from Egypt to the promised land.  And God used him for a great purpose and used him in a special way.  We are all born into an era of time, with differing circumstances and events and challenges to face.  But we all have a purpose in the time in which we live to make a difference, to be used by God, to fulfill what He has for each of us to do.

There was another baby born at just the right time in history.  Moses was kind of the forerunner of Jesus, the promised one to come.  He was born into this world to be our Savior, to be everything we needed Him to be, to deliver us from the cruelest bondage that mankind ever faced.  He survived as a baby though Herod tried to kill Him.  He grew up and went forth to His ministry and then to His cross in perfect obedience to His Father.  He completed the work He had come to do.

The things that happen in our lives and in our world may seem haphazard or coincidental or random or like bad luck, but there is a God working out His will and His plans using people like Moses, people like us, and His very own Son to accomplish all that He wants to do.  We get to be a part of that no matter how insignificant we may feel.  God chose our birthday.  God chose our birth place.  And He has some things He wants us to do for Him so others can know Him and trust in Him and find their purpose in Him and His purpose for their lives.
