12 Days of Christmas Carols: Go, Tell It on the Mountain

“Go, tell it on the mountain,
over the hills and everywhere.
Go, tell it on the mountain
that Jesus Christ is born.”

Luke 2:17
And when they had seen it, they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this child.

After the shepherds heard the good news and after they went to see, then they went to tell.  It was quite the story they had, but they could not keep it to themselves.  The most wonderful thing had happened.  The most amazing things had been said.  And a special baby had been born and was right here among them, in a manger of all things, a baby the angels said was their Savior, Christ the Lord.

We also have a story to tell.  It may not involve a visit from angels, but it is our unique experience of what Jesus means to us, what He’s done for us, how He has changed our lives.  And when we tell people about how Jesus has worked in our hearts, it can inspire others that He can do the same for them.  It can offer hope to know a Savior has come and we know He is real because we have seen Him for ourselves.

It is a story that has been told many times since that first time 2,000 years ago, but it is a story worth remembering and repeating year after year.  Though it is so familiar, may we never get tired of telling people about Jesus, how He came into our world, how He died for our sins, how He lives still today.  We never know when it may be the first time someone hears that story.  So let’s spread the good news far and wide and close to home and rejoice in the truth of Jesus.
