2 Timothy 4:3-4
For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

People are willing to believe a lot of things that aren’t based on truth.  It takes a measure of faith to believe those things, but yet they will deny the pure and sure truth of God.  They will believe what they want to be true rather than what is true.  They will crave for the things that satisfy them and disregard the hard truths that would make them uncomfortable.  People are willing to believe all the lies that Satan and this world have to offer while refusing the truth that God loves them and cares about every aspect of their lives.  It’s a decision we have to make, then, whether to turn our ears to lies or the truth.

The truth of God challenges us.  It forces us to confront those things within us that defy the holiness of God.  It forces us to recognize our weaknesses and shortcomings and the limitations that we have.  His truth forces us to see the truth about ourselves, and we don’t always like to hear that.  But if we try to replace God’s truth with our way, only chaos will reign, never peace or goodness or hope.

That only makes it more important to keep proclaiming the truth of God faithfully, even if the world seems deaf to it.  We cannot allow the truth of God to be silenced or to be relegated to one facet of society.  Churches must proclaim the truth—the whole truth, unchanged from how God gave it.  Preachers must be faithful to the Word of God.  And every believer must hold fast to that truth and proclaim it in their lives and abide by it.

Let us not be fooled ourselves, but may we stick to the revealed truth of God, even if it challenges us, even if it is uncomfortable, even it means we have to change.  In a world where people would rather believe a lie than face the truth of God, we must be careful of what we say and ensure it aligns with biblical truth.  We must not change the message to appease the masses, but faithfully proclaim the only message that truly matters and that has the power to influence people and to transform hearts and lives.
