Seeing God

2 Kings 6:16-17
And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them.  And Elisha prayed, and said, LORD, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the LORD opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha.

A source of our fear is often when we only see the visible world and forget about the invisible working of God.  He is always more than the enemies that surround us.  He is working in ways of which we aren’t always aware.  God is with us even when we cannot see that He is.  There is a world beyond our vision just as real as what we can see that impacts our lives here.

We need eyes of faith to understand the reality of God’s presence.  Scripture proves over and over that God is aware of what is happening in our world and in our lives.  He promises to be with His people.  He has demonstrated His faithfulness in so many ways down through the ages.  So when enemies surround us and things seem so overwhelming, we can know that God has not abandoned us to face it alone.

With eyes of faith, we can see God’s protection.  He has us surrounded by an impenetrable defense, and nothing can get through that.  He gives us armor for the fiery darts.  His armies surround us.  He is our refuge and our safe place.  He is that dependable and strong wall that shields and shelters us.  So many times He steps between us and what seeks our hurt and our destruction.

With eyes of faith, we’ll see God’s power.  There is no one stronger than our God.  There is no one more able to defeat and overcome what seems so big and overwhelming to us.  It is that demonstrated and proven power that brought the world into being, that rescued a nation, that secured our salvation, that touches our world still today.  God’s power moves the unmovable and gives us something solid and sure to depend on.  May the Lord open our eyes to see these attributes of our God who constantly surrounds us with His presence, His protection, and His power.
