Justified

Romans 3:23-25
For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;

We are sinners.  There is no mistaking that.  We come up short, and the law shows us that.  God’s standard of perfection is more than we could ever attain to.  No matter how hard we try, we can’t undo our sin.  We can’t cease from sinning.  We can’t match up even when we know what the standard is.  But Jesus knew that, so He came and died for us.  He came to accomplish what we could not.  And by His grace, He forgives us and removes those sins from our account.

God is aware of our sins, but He does not immediately punish us for them.  It’s not that He brings His judgment upon us with our first transgression, but He forbears.  He is longsuffering toward us.  He restrains Himself from giving us what we deserve to give us an opportunity to accept His grace and forgiveness.  He is willing to offer us those precious gifts despite our great unworthiness for anything good from His hands.

And He gives us those gifts freely, at no cost to us, because He paid such a steep price.  God gave His Son for us.  Jesus gave Himself for us.  And then we simply give ourselves to Him after we believe on Him.  And then we live in that state of righteousness in our precious Savior.  Our sins are past, something we can put behind us as we move forward in our walk with Him.  The guilt, the pain, the chains, and the prospect of some future punishment are all done away with by the blood of Jesus.

It may not be a popular truth, but we all fall short of God’s holy standard.  We all come up lacking when compared to what we were meant to be.  Sin is a fact of life in our world, and it has distorted and corrupted so many things.  But we don’t have to stay there.  Through the precious blood of Christ, by the amazing grace of God, we can be transformed from sinner to redeemed child of God.  We can be sanctified by Him, and we can look forward to that coming day where we can live as sinless people in a sinless place forever.
