New Songs

Psalm 144:9
I will sing a new song unto thee, O God: upon a psaltery and an instrument of ten strings will I sing praises unto thee.

Do we have a new song for our God this day?  Can we offer up some new praise we never thought to offer before?  Has some new blessing been bestowed upon us that spurs us to sing before our loving God?  His mercies are new every morning.  His grace is as fresh as the morning dew.  His blessings abound from day to day.  So can we find some new way to serve, honor, and glorify Him?  Will we lift our voices toward heaven with a song of love and gratefulness to our Savior?

God gives us a fresh start and a clean slate each day.  He makes all things new, and He makes us new.  And so can we not compose a fresh song from somewhere deep in our hearts?  Can our spirit join with His and make some music together as we rejoice in God and His goodness?  Can simple thoughts of His mercy and grace entice a melody from our hearts?  And are we willing to come each day to Him and not neglect to give Him praise?

Because doesn’t it make our hearts sing just to think upon our God?  Every need He has supplied.  Every desire He has fulfilled.  Every sin He has forgiven.  Every day His love is poured out upon us from His storehouse of mercy, and it floods our lives and washes away all the hurt and discouragement and emptiness.  His grace shines upon us like a bright and beaming sun and warms all the cold spots in our hearts and causes us to lift our eyes up to Him, acknowledging that He is the source of anything good that we experience or have or know.

Let us make these kinds of offerings from a grateful heart.  Let’s make it a point to always be singing God’s praises and to be writing new songs of love to our gracious Lord.  In good times and bad, we can think upon who He is and all that He has done.  In times of plenty and times of want, we can see Him working and acknowledge Him as our Master, no matter where the course of our lives and our choices and our mistakes may take us.  So let us be sure that when we sing, we are singing to our God, the only one deserving of our praise.
