Exodus 3:11-12
And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?  And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou hast brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain.

Moses’ question is, “Who am I?”  In other words, he is nothing and knows that he is.  He knows he is not capable of standing before Pharaoh or delivering a nation.  He remembers where he came from and his time in Egypt all those years before.  He knew what he’d done and how he was rejected by his people and the Egyptians and why he had to flee.  He knew where he’d been most recently, keeping sheep in the desert.  He knew very well his own limitations, his doubts, his weaknesses and his failures.

But it’s not really Moses that has to do much of anything.  God’s response does not say anything about Moses and how he will accomplish this task.  God simply says, “Certainly I will be with thee,” and that is really all we need to go out and answer whatever call God has given to us.  Who we are is inconsequential.  It is who God is that matters and makes all the difference.  And certainly He will be with us, as well, as we respond to His call for our lives.

One of the most amazing things is that God chooses to use us at all.  But perhaps the more amazing thing is that He uses us knowing full well that we are incapable of doing those things He calls us to—at least in our own power.  But as long as we are willing to go, as long as we will trust Him, as long as we stick close to Him for the duration, we’ll accomplish every single thing He wants us to do.  When God goes with us, we can face our fears.  When He is beside us, we can accomplish great things.  When we follow His leading, we may just end up somewhere we never thought we’d be able to go.

Here Moses stood, talking to a burning bush, receiving his commission from Almighty God.  And deep down inside him, beneath all of his fears and limitations and excuses, was a heart willing to respond to God, a heart that desired to obey and serve the God of his fathers.  And so often, God calls out to us in our lives, not seeking our strength or our wisdom or some great quality about us.  He is just looking for willing and humble hearts that He can send forth to fulfill His purposes.  So whatever it is God has called us to, let us remember that He will be with us for the duration.  And may that be enough to cause us to go forward in obedience to Him.
