Acts 19:18-20
And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.  Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.  So mightily grew the word of God and prevailed.

The Word of God prevails over the world and sinful practices and false systems of belief.  It prevails over the counterfeit and the lies and the deception.  It prevails over pride and self.  It prevails over the darkness and evil of this world and that which we find in our own hearts.  It wins over our hearts and beats back the shadows that seek to grasp for us and pulls us up into something so much better.  It works mightily in our lives to transform and change.  It molds and shapes us so we can let go of something which used to be so valuable and find instead the priceless gifts of God.

The great and powerful Word of God can prevail in any heart.  It doesn’t matter what else had long dwelt there.  It doesn’t matter how ingrained it was in sin.  It doesn’t matter how buried it was beneath the heavy weight of something that ultimately proved so empty.  And it frees us from those things and enables us to fill our lives and our hearts with truth, peace, love, hope, joy and everything else that comes from establishing a relationship with God.

So, what kinds of sacrifices are we willing to make?  Will we give up things that had once been so important to us in order to be obedient to what God says?  Are we willing to surrender to Him completely even if it means giving up something valuable?  Will we be serious about ridding sin from our lives and allowing it to be destroyed completely?  And will we stand up before the watching crowd and tell them how we’d once been so entrenched in sin but are now entrenched in the truth of God?

We should never underestimate the power that God has to work in a life.  His power is able to overcome everything else, no matter how strong it may seem.  And His truth prevails every time.  So if we’re willing to surrender something, He will enable us to forsake it.  If we’re willing to step forward and accept His truth into our hearts and lives, He will allow it to work in us in extraordinary ways.  And if we burn up all those things in our lives that used to mean so much, He will fill us to the brim with something so much sweeter than we could have ever imagined.
