Psalm 149:4-5
For the LORD taketh pleasure in his people: he will beautify the meek with salvation.  Let the saints be joyful in glory: let them sing aloud upon their beds.

God takes pleasure in us—little and insignificant as we may be, the ones who fail and feel unworthy, the ones who sometimes give in to selfishness and pride, the ones who fumble in our praises and sing out of key.  We are not perfect people, but we are loved by a holy God.  We are not always strong or wise, and yet He blesses us in so many ways, delivering us, saving us, helping us.  We may find a multitude of things to dislike within ourselves, but still God is there delighting in those who choose Him.

And then don’t we take pleasure in this great God we are so privileged to know and to serve?  Will we not try to give Him all that we are and all that we have?  Won’t we seek Him daily and be drawn ever closer to Him?  Won’t we strive to delight Him more and more with a life of careful obedience, of integrity and righteousness?  Won’t we seek to do ever more of those things that please Him?

The fact is that we are His, and we can have a very real, very personal relationship with the Lord through Jesus Christ.  He made us, He knows us, and He loves us at our very worst.  This thought should produce in us an unquenchable joy.  This knowledge should entice praise for our great God from the depths of our hearts and souls.  These things should encourage us to seek to know our gracious Lord better and better and keep growing in Him.  And then how can we not just be so humbled by this amazing truth and grateful for it?

We all have imperfections.  We all make mistakes.  We all have weaknesses that seem so inherent within us.  But our loving Father cares for us despite all of those things.  Indeed, it is perhaps because of all those things that He has such compassion and tenderness toward us.  So may we rejoice eternally in a God who knows us and cares so much for us, who has such a vested interest in us and our lives.  May we praise Him always from thankful hearts for the love He shares with us, the relationship we can have, and the life we can spend with Him.
