Acts 10:17-18
Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate, And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
God is always engineering different things behind the scenes. He is working in ways that we aren’t always aware of. He is constantly moving and doing things on our behalf. He had prepared Cornelius to receive something. He had told him an answer to his prayer was coming, that there was a man who could tell him what he needed to do. And at the same time, God was preparing Peter to give something. He had given him this vision to prepare him to be used to bring the Gospel to Cornelius and the Gentiles. And so these two separate worlds were about to come together by God’s careful arrangement.
God has perfect timing. And if our eyes are open, we can see His hand at work in different circumstances of our lives. He is working things out, preparing people, moving pieces around to give to us exactly what we need. He was eager to share His truth with Cornelius, and so He had prepared Peter to deliver a message and open the door that ushered God’s grace into the hearts of many people. And oftentimes, He will prepare someone to come to us and share with us exactly what we needed to hear.
And let’s also be open to being used by God in whatever ways He would have us to be. He can use us to bring a message of hope to someone who needs to experience the love of Christ in their life. He can prepare us to share the truth of Jesus with a seeking heart. Sometimes God calls us out by name specifically to be a blessing to someone else. So are we willing to respond to that call?
God engineered the circumstances that prepared us to receive Christ as our personal Savior. He was working behind the scenes preparing our hearts, answering prayers, and giving a message to whoever shared with us the truth of salvation and helped lead us to the Lord along the way. And once we’ve come to know Him, He will use us, as well, to influence others for Him. God works in amazing ways, and He wants to use us to accomplish His purposes, so may we always be aware of His Spirit speaking to us and be willing to go wherever He sends us and to whomever He would send us.
