89 For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
90 Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
91 They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants.
92 Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction.
93 I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me.
94 I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts.
95 The wicked have waited for me to destroy me: but I will consider thy testimonies.
96 I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad.
So why can we depend so much on this book that God has given us? One reason is because God’s Word, like its author, is eternal. It is forever. It has been established and cannot be changed. It is something that we can always count on, because God builds things to last. And God is eternal, so He is always those things that His Word says He is—always faithful, always true, always merciful. And He faithfully provides what we need as long as we need it.
There is no end or limit to the Word of God. It is enduring to every age, but it is also exceeding broad, covering every topic to help us in our lives. It will be our guidebook for every situation we face. Other things end. So many things only pass through or last for a little while. But God’s Word will be faithful in every age. It is applicable to everyone everywhere. It will always be there for us, so we can depend on it through the ups and downs of life.
God is the sustainer of all things, and He allows His Word to continually be at work in His world. And so as God’s Word eternally endures, may it continually reside in our hearts and minds. May we never forget what God has shared with us, but continue seeking and learning. That way, it will be a continual help and benefit to us. His Word is life, and it is what sustains us to keep moving forward. What a great assurance we have that we can trust all of God’s Word always.
