1 John 2:3-6
And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.

It’s not just something we say, but something we do. If we abide in Christ, we will be like Christ. We will obey the Father. We will surrender our will. We will lay down our life. We will be driven by love. We will show mercy to others. We will walk humbly in this world. We will depend on His Spirit to lead us. We will treasure His Word. We will be faithful to fulfill our promises and commitments. We will be servants. We will give ourselves for the sake of others. We will proclaim truth. We will forsake sin. We will be who God wants us to be and do as He wants us to do.

Do we know Jesus, and are we willing to live like He did, to be like Him? Imagine if all who believed on Him and called themselves Christians actually walked as He did in this world. How different it could be. How much more love and patience we would have with each other. How much more grace we would be willing to show to the lost and broken. How much more generous and kind and full of compassion we would be. How much more good we would do. How much more focused we would be on God and His kingdom.

May we follow closely at the heels of Jesus. He gave us an example to follow. He forged a righteous path through this world. He enables us by His Spirit who dwells in us. He has given us His Word. He works in and through us. And as we trust Him, we can obey Him. As He walked, so we will walk. He does what pleases the Father. He blesses and helps others. He gives unselfishly. He points people to salvation and offers eternal life. And we are called to take up our cross and follow Him.
