Hebrews 10:24-25
And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.
We need each other as the body of Christ in a wicked world. We need the help and encouragement of other blood-bought believers to live for Jesus, to love and to show our love, to do the work of ministry, to do what is right in the midst of a hostile place where many oppose and persecute all that we stand for and stand upon.
We need the haven and sanctuary of that gathering together to be strengthened, to grow, to exercise our gifts, to honor God, to draw on one another in that family relationship. It is a place to be saturated by truth, by love, by kindness, by encouragement, by help, by hope, just by being around likeminded people who are also trying to live for the Lord. It is a shelter from the worldly and worldly influences. It is an opportunity to be challenged to greater steps of faith, greater acts of love, and greater acts of good.
But all of this requires our own willingness to assemble together, to be a part, to give of ourselves, and to receive what is offered. It takes each individual’s commitment to the whole, or there is no body. It takes faithfulness. It often requires vulnerability and sacrifice. And it is done in obedience to God. It is done because the time is short and the day approaches and the work is urgent and the devil is roaring. So what is your attitude about church? About attending a church, being involved, gathering together at the appointed times? Does it matter? It is a priority? Will you commit yourself to being faithful instead of forsaking the gathering of God’s people? Are you willing to be in your place to serve the Lord and help one another?
Amen!
