Once For All

Hebrews 10:10-14
By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.

One sacrifice of Jesus Christ could do much more than millions and millions of animals that were sacrificed under the Old Testament system. There were the daily sacrifices, the feast sacrifices, the sin offerings, the offerings for Passover, the Day of Atonement, all these for hundreds of thousands of people for hundreds of years. And it was never enough and never would be enough. Those sacrifices were repeated because they were merely symbolic and insufficient in and of themselves.

But then Jesus came, the perfect Lamb of God, to offer Himself once and for all as the atoning sacrifice for all sin for all people of all time. That was enough. That was sufficient. It satisfied God’s wrath. The work is finished, and Jesus sits down with the job done. And now we that have accepted Him are whole and righteous by His own perfect sacrifice, and that can never be taken away from us. There is nothing more to do. We don’t need to offer any kind of sacrifice for sin, and Jesus, having done it once for all, does not offer Himself a second time. It is finished. Salvation is secured. Forgiveness of sin is possible. New life in Christ comes forth by His power.

My friend, if you are burdened by sin, please understand that there is power in the blood of Jesus. There are all kinds of things that people may do to try to atone for their own sins. It may not be sacrificing a lamb, but it has the same effect. It does nothing to undo the sin, the guilt, and the deserved punishment. But Jesus can take all of that away through His all-sufficient sacrifice. He did it for you out of the abundance of His great love and mercy. He suffered greatly on your behalf. And He offers you a gift that you need only receive. Trust in Him and the power of His blood to truly take away your sin.
