Luke 24:5-9
And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee, Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again. And they remembered his words, And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.

Now they remembered His words, but previously they hadn’t remembered.  Jesus’ words had gotten buried under the overwhelming event of His death and the sorrow pressing in all around them.  When Jesus had first spoken of His death, burial, and resurrection, the disciples hadn’t understood what He meant.  But now when the women at the tomb are reminded of those words and the truth of them is able to sink deep into their hearts, it changes them and it changes their course.

There was nothing more to do at the tomb if Jesus was alive.  The task was now to go and tell others that great news.  Their future is no longer hopeless, and mourning is no longer necessary.  Jesus is alive, and so hope is, as well.  Jesus is alive, and so there can be fullness of joy.  And those things cannot be contained, but they must be shared so that others can hear that truth and find hope and joy for themselves.

Sometimes in the midst of trials, we forget the words that Jesus has spoken to us.  We forget those sure and faithful sayings that can help us deal with what we’re facing in a different way.  Sometimes we get so blinded by our own perspective of a situation that we forget to consider what God has already said about it.  Maybe this is a reminder that we need just now.  Jesus is alive.  He was crucified.  He was buried.  But He rose again the third day.  That truth can affect our situation.  It can give hope to whatever seems so hopeless.  It can give joy to whatever seems so sorrowful.  And then we can go and share that good news with others who may be glad to hear it.
