Matthew 11:28
Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

We like to present our homes as neat, uncluttered, and presentable.  But it can be difficult to maintain that on an everyday basis, so when visitors come, we may just put all that extra stuff in another room to hide our mess from them.  Sometimes we can do that in our spiritual lives, too, and maybe at times there are things that we purposely shut away from God.  But we don’t have to keep those things tucked away and try to deal with them on our own.  All we have to do is open the door and ask Him to help us clean up the mess.

There is an element of certainty to all that Jesus offers to us.  Those things that can be found in Christ can always be found in Christ.  And at His feet, we become unburdened.  He came to set us free from all those things we can’t handle on our own—those big, overwhelming things we want to hide from instead of dealing with.  Jesus will take away our sin and bear our burdens, and the rest He offers us is made all the more sweeter because it is rest in His presence.

But it is a choice whether we go to Jesus or not.  We can stay where we are and stay the same while our burden gets heavier and heavier and our hidden mess gets more out of control.  We can go to someone or something else.  But it won’t be the same as going to Jesus and falling at His feet with all that we have that is too much to carry.  The temporary relief we find at some other source won’t be the same as the lasting rest and the unexplainable peace that comes from placing our burdens in His hands.

Jesus’ arms are always open wide.  He is always inviting us to come and then to come closer still.  There is nothing that we can’t bring before Him.  There is nothing too big or too much for Him.  There is nothing that will change His love for us.  We don’t have to keep it all shoved down deep inside hoping no one will know about it, but we can release it all to Jesus and let His grace and mercy and love fill us up instead.
