Psalm 37:1-3
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.  For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and whither as the green herb.  Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

Sometimes it seems like evil is just saturating our world and there is hardly anything good left.  There are threats in every realm of society with the potential for evil to be done.  It many ways it seems to be running rampant and getting worse and worse.  Day after day come reports of new horrific acts.  Wars are ongoing.  In a lot of ways, it seems like no part of our world is untouched by evil’s hand, and that can be overwhelming.

But as God’s own precious children, we really don’t have to worry about it.  “Fret not” is our directive from His Word—fret not about the evil ones and their evil deeds.  They won’t last forever.  They won’t overcome.  God’s got it taken care of.  He is not unaware of what is happening.  He will ensure justice is done.  He will one day destroy it completely, and what a glorious thing it will be to dwell in a world absent of sin and its chaotic effects.

In the meantime, our focus is to be in a different place.  In the meantime, we can trust God to meet our needs no matter what others may try to do.  In the meantime, we keep living for God, having faith, and doing what is good to do.  We live out our faith and what it produces in us with our eyes upon our Savior.  We refuse to let that evil infect us but instead continue to follow God and do what He would have us to do.  In the meantime, we shine our lights, proclaim His truth, and live as best we can to stem that tide.

God’s Word is clear.  There is an obvious distinction between evildoers and the righteous.  Evil is cut down.  It does not triumph.  It’s not going to last.  But the righteous continue on.  They are not cut down to wither away, but they grow.  They become something much more, something that lasts beyond this temporary place.  One of the best ways to endure in the midst of the evil of this world is to keep the right focus, knowing God is with us now as we are in the world and knowing our eternal home will give us lasting freedom from all the hurt and pain and evil that result from sin.
