Exodus 31:6
And I, behold, I have given with him Aholiab, the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan: and in the hearts of all that are wise hearted I have put wisdom, that they may make all that I have commanded thee;
God always has a plan, a pattern, and a people prepared for the work that He is going to do. He always knows what He is doing, how to do it, and who is going to do it. In Israel’s case, He showed Moses the pattern for the tabernacle and exactly how to set it up, what materials to use, the dimensions, the layout, and the purpose for each part of it. And beyond that, He had people prepared with wisdom and ability to do the workmanship that was required and make everything according to God’s specifications. In this way, God enables everything to come together exactly as He wants it to be.
It works much the same way in our own lives. God has an overall plan for this world, for His church, and for our individual lives. He’s given us the pattern to follow through His Son and His Word. He’s given us guidance and direction about what to do and how to do it. He’s shown us the way, given us an example, and made it very clear. And then He prepares each of us to have our part in that. He gives us unique wisdom and abilities in order to play a very specific role in ensuring that everything comes together exactly how He wants it to be.
In all of these things, God is the originator. He is a Creator who enables us to create. He is a builder who enables us to build. And any knowledge and wisdom we have about how to do that comes from our all-wise and all-knowing God. Because it’s not that we’re just trying to make things up as we go along, but God is putting in place things He planned long before they are implemented. He is crafting an intricate picture all along the way that would look an awful lot like Jesus when it was finished. And as each element of the tabernacle pointed forward to Messiah, the church today reflects our risen Savior to the world around us.
God is a long-term planner. And He is a patient God who allows things to come to pass in the appointed time. So may we simply be willing to take our place in our own time to fulfill God’s plan and purpose. He’s got it all figured out. He’s got the materials. He’s got the instructions. All He needs is people willing to be used. All He wants is people to step forward and use what wisdom and talent and abilities He has given them to bring Him much glory.
Very true!
