Psalm 77:16-19
The waters saw thee, O God, the waters saw thee; they were afraid: the depths also were troubled. The clouds poured out water: the skies sent out a sound: thine arrows also went abroad. The voice of thy thunder was in the heaven: the lightnings lightened the world: the earth trembled and shook. Thy way is in the sea, and thy path in the great waters, and thy footsteps are not known.
We can’t see God moving. We can’t fathom His ways and means. They are past our finding out because He is so great and high and amazing. But the results are visible. His power is on display within the world He has created. And every part of it and every force within it bows in submission to His authority. He has influence on the world and all the things in it. And we don’t always know how God does things, but we can be sure that He does do them.
And so if our God has the world in His hands, can He not then influence what is going on in our lives? He is our maker and our creator, so shouldn’t He also have the ability to work in us, to move mightily in our lives? Can He not heal any physical, spiritual, or emotional problem? Can He not shape our hearts and our minds to align with His ways? And doesn’t He have unlimited power to work however He would see fit in our current circumstances?
God’s presence is everywhere, so then He is always with us. We are not going it alone in a big, bad world. We are not facing tremendous pressures and forces and struggles outside of the presence of God. He will always be near if we invite Him into our lives. But we have to follow His way. We have to follow the path He has chosen for each of us. And sometimes it involves difficult things, but He is still with us in them. So let us learn from Him and learn His ways and make them our ways.
God goes before us, He goes beside us, and He goes behind us. Whether we are in the sea or the sanctuary, He is there. His way is there. It can be seen and known just in nature and then in His Word and through His people, revealed by His Spirit. And our God is bigger than all the things that seem big to us, and He is stronger than all the things that seem so powerful to us. And He will come to us where we are and do amazing things within our lives.
